MRJ Brotherhood Shabbat – Additional Readings

As many congregations honor their brotherhood annually with a special “Brotherhood Shabbat”, MRJ has created a series of additional readings especially for this occasion. (Download)

These additional passages speak to the struggle of being a Jewish man in today’s world and will give your entire congregation both a greater sense of the experience of many Jewish men, and a better idea of what your Brotherhood or men’s group is all about.   There are many alternative texts for you to choose from and as this document is in WORD format, you can select and compile those specific readings you want for your Brotherhood’s Shabbat service and then print your own special booklet to distribute that night.

For those congregations that continue to use the Gates of Prayer, the “NFTB” Brotherhood Shabbat (created in 1998) with our recommended additional readings incorporated into the service itself, also remains available as a download.

We believe that this material will assist you in making the Brotherhood and/or Men’s Shabbat a special event, one that we hope will especially resonate with the men of your congregation but create a memorable Shabbat experience for your entire congregation.

Note: This is a Work in Progress:  If you find additional text that you find particularly meaningful, please do not hesitate to share that material with us as well so we may incorporate it into future editions.
